TE RAUTAKI MĀORI MŌ KĀINGA ORA
Māpuna Consultants were contracted by Kāinga Ora in 2020 to develop their Māori Housing Strategy for the organisation. The process that Māpuna undertook spanned 18 months and from that time, a robust and extensive engagement strategy was undertaken to capture the aspirations of Whānau Māori and housing. From there, an iterative and co-developed approach to writing the strategy was done and it was launched in November 2021.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN EDUCATION WORKFORCE STRATEGY FOR MĀORI MEDIUM
Māpuna worked alongside Māori Medium leaders and Ministry of Education staff to develop an education workforce strategy for Māori Medium through playing a facilitative role and supporting the sector to design and implement this strategy.

DEVELOPING AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND'S FIRST NATIONAL RISK ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
Dr Dee Sciascia was appointed one out of 9 panelists to develop this framework in conjunction with the Ministry for the Environment which was released on 19 September 2019.
Māpuna Consultants were excited to be part of this kaupapa and to support the Government to moving towards action to combat the impacts of climate change. A letter from Minister James Shaw (Minister for Climate Change) can be viewed below.

CURATOR OF THE TE MATATINI 2019 EXHIBITION
'TE IHOREI'
FUNDED BY CREATIVE NEW ZEALAND
Tumarangai Sciascia was funded to curate a Māori arts exhibition at Te Matatini National Kapa Haka competition in February, 2019 in Wellington New Zealand. The exhibition brought together 12 Māori artists, who represented the 12 regions involved in Te Matatini, and their artwork as a showcase of the excellence of Māori art.

COACHING EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
Māpuna Consultants is currently undergoing one on one coaching/mentoring for executives in leadership roles within the tertiary sector and public sector. Coaching is centred on te reo Māori me ōna tikanga but is underpinned with ngā uara Māori (values) me ngā mātāpono (principles). Organisations we are currently working with are not named here for confidentiality.

CULTURAL CAPABILITY
FOR THE PUBLIC SECTOR


Māpuna Consultants work closely with a range of Crown Agencies and other organisations providing cultural capability development and training. This work is important to Māpuna as it provides us with the opportunity to raise the capability of many decision-makers within Government and other areas to broaden their understanding and appreciation for all things Māori. Our priority is to support the transformation of our whānau, hapū and iwi and see this as one of the ways in which we can have a positive impact on sharing Te Ao Māori perspectives with our Treaty partners. Some of our current clients include Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management & Department of Internal Affairs.

EVALUATION SUPPORT
FOR ORANGA MARAE
TE PUNI KŌKIRI AND
DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
MARAE DEVELOPMENT FUNDING
Māpuna worked closely with both agencies to provide evaluation advice and expertise and support to the 2020 evaluation of Oranga Marae – a new funding programme, model and partnership. This role required working closely with Te Puni Kōkiri and Department of Internal Affairs to connect evaluative and research underpinnings so that evaluation processes for the programme are robust and are framed within a kaupapa Māori approach.
